Facilities are concentrated in Pennsylvania (18), California (16), Georgia (13).
The two largest groups are the 57 kosher facilities and the 166 halal facilities. The USDA also recognizes religious exemptions for smaller communities, including Buddhist and Confucian poultry processing. Facilities holding an exemption typically also operate under USDA inspection for their conventional production.
