Halal Meat Processing Plants

166 meat processing facilities across the United States are authorized by the USDA under a halal religious exemption, which permits slaughter and processing that follows halal dietary requirements.

Halal facilities are concentrated in Pennsylvania (15), Georgia (13), Illinois (12).

Halal slaughter and processing follows Islamic dietary law. The USDA records the same Muslim requirement as a “halal” exemption for meat and an “Islamic” exemption for poultry; both are grouped on this page. Under the exemption, these facilities can serve producers and communities that require halal handling — most also operate under USDA inspection for their conventional production.
